But on Monday, David Hasselhoff swapped balmy California for arctic Southport, as he posed for a festive-style shoot alongside a sleigh
The 60-year-old actor didn't let the -3C temperatures put him off, managing a smile as he braved the cold in his festive lifeguard uniform complete with shorts, jacket and Hollywood tan.
'But Christmas is my favourite time of the year, and particularly now I'm "enjoying" some Christmasy UK weather.'
Hasselhoff's shoot came as he was voted the celebrity most of us would want to have a Christmas picture taken with.
Electronics company Nikon Coolpix which found that 72 per cent of us feel too mature to have a photo with Father Christmas, and 52 per cent of us have met an unconvincing or unpleasant Santa.
However, the Hollywood star seems to have taken to the role like a duck to water, as he added: 'It's been fun to get involved with this very merry photo and I am honoured so many Brits chose me as an alternative to Santa.
'It must be something to do with the red suit. We went to pretty extreme lengths to get this Christmas creation, so I hope people like the picture.'
Nikon spokesperson Jeremy Gilbert
said: 'It seems many adults would rather pass on an opportunity to pose
with Father Christmas.
'Adults may be past believing in Santa, but the Hoff can still inspire lots of festive fun.'
Excited fans were also given a treat from their American hero as he handed out presents as part of his new role.
One avid fan, Angelina Ryan, 31, was even lucky enough to have her Christmas photo taken with the star.
The admin officer from Blackburn said: 'Meeting the Hoff was a dream come true. I've been a massive fan since I saw him running across my screen, saving people in Baywatch, all those years ago.'

He said: 'I'm more used to Malibu
beach than Southport beach, to be honest, so posing in my shorts by the
British seaside in November was quite an experience. I envied the
reindeer their coats, I can say as much!'But Christmas is my favourite time of the year, and particularly now I'm "enjoying" some Christmasy UK weather.'
